After having worked photographically in London and Glasgow "Body Spaces" 1998 and in the deserts of Arizona "Body Cells" 2000 -0", I approach a third geographically specific project, in which I would like to come to terms with the landscape of my hometown, my place of origin ( a small town situated in the Austrian lake district). I combine photographs of landscapes with those of flights as well as images of the water surface and underwater photos, images of family members, and laboratory images of life forms that live in the waters of the Mondsee ("Moon Lake"), in order to give a personal and overall account of my memories.
Over the course of one year I studied the landscape with my camera, so that I could also include the changes of the landscape that occur with the changing of the seasons. Through detailed study of reality, reality can be overcome, and new conditions, like the virtual worlds of computer games, can be created. In this way, by the doubling and mirroring of landscapes or the repeating of certain elements, I would like to achieve a reflected distance from, as well as create metaphors for, my "personal history", (e.g. lying down, flying, floating " from the cradle to the grave "life passes like a flight").
Like in my previous photographic work, I work with scientists in order to add components of realistic / naturalistic images as contrasting elements. The Limnology Institute (Dir. Dr. Weisse), Austrian Academy of Science, which is based in the town of Mondsee, allows me to use laboratory images of life forms (of plant or animal origin) found in the waters of the Mondsee ("Moon Lake"). These images of one-celled organisms, fish larvae or algae are combined or overlapped with the photographs in order to develop new perspectives.
In this way, "Stationen des Erinnerns"("Stations of Memory") can be seen as developmental threads and subjective traces left in the memory which have been recorded in a procedural manner in photographic form.
