San Antonio Botanical Gardens

Inspired by longer stays and numerous visits in Botanical Gardens and Conservatories in America 2007–2008 Elisabeth Wörndl develops a series of images of the Botanical Garden in San Antonio, Texas.

By overlapping and overlaying different views of the garden a special artificial world within nature is created.

Elisabeth Wörndl researches the artificiality of nature in an urban context, drawing the viewer's attention to cultivated but restricted territories. These protected zones within Botanical Gardens represent tendencies to create museum like situations of nature within reach of big cities. The Garden as a piece of artificial generated nature represents a spectrum of cultivated imagination. The boundaries between reality and fiction are loosened.
